Dear Swire Travel Corporate Customers,
Please be advised that the Thai government said it will invoke the Internal Security Act (ISA) from March 11-23 to maintain order during a mass protest rally by the opposition United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) on March 14. Authorities will enforce the ISA across all of Bangkok and the nearby province of Nonthaburi, as well as in some 22 districts in six provinces near Bangkok, including Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Chachoengsao, Nakhon Pathom and Ayutthaya. Authorities consider these provincial districts to be major routes or key gathering places for UDD supporters or "red shirts." The UDD plans to begin gathering for the mass rally in Bangkok on March 12, with several thousand supporters from the provinces arriving in what they claim will be more than 35,000 trucks. The demonstration will be centered at the Sanam Luang and Ratchadamnoen Avenue in west-central Bangkok, but several other rallies will be held throughout the Thai capital.
